Spaceship Excellent is about to make history

The musical Spacemen are on a mission to explore the galaxy of the United States in search of the leader of the solar system. They travel in a spaceship bus, a mobile laboratory used for inspecting foreign towns and inhabitants. The viewpoints they collect become raw material for their live shows, where their experience becomes one with their audience. The mission will culminate in the nation’s capital on Election Day, when the new leader will be named.

Think Ken Kesey meets Parliament Funkadelic. They will be joined by Seedwell, a viral film crew that has reached millions of viewers online and on national TV with hit YouTube videos. The crew, who recently filmed the Wu-Tang Clan’s tour, will be documenting the entire journey and posting episodes on www.spaceshipexcellent.com, where viewers vote to have the Spaceship come to their town.

A Spaceship Excellent show is a humanist revival, a community assembly, a dance party, a come-one-comeall cosmic exhibition. They have played for hundreds of fans at several Seattle venues including Chop Suey and the Comet. Captain Beaujangles’s rhymes are those of a true storyteller with a global conscience and a gift for wordplay.

There is none of the empty self-aggrandizement and materialism of so many emcees in Beau-J’s flows, rather themes of improvement of the self and of the collective, taking action against injustice, and celebration of pure human spirit. The music experiments with hip hop as a mode of poetic discourse, fused with the raw cathartic power of Rock & Roll and the intricate, expansive rhythms of Africa and the Caribbean. Bass lines evoke the masters of 1970’s Jamaica, classic soul and funk. Guitar parts vary from the angular, dissonant lines of modern rock, to the lush, complex chording of jazz, to the syncopated scratching of retro funk and reggae, to the rhythmic bounce of Afro-beat.

This is a tour of cosmic proportions that is soon to become the world’s first ever Interactive Rockumentary. Each venue and person they meet on the way will set the stage for this cultural phenomenon, and they want you to be a part of it.

All aboard.
